What is Mu Andromedae

Mu Andromedae is a white A-type star burning at the hip of the chained princess. About a hundred and thirty light-years away, its glow blends with the faint halo of the Andromeda Galaxy, the towering neighbour destined to merge with our own in billions of years. To watch Mu is to lean over a balcony above the greatest galactic collision in our future.

Where it is and when to see it

Mu Andromedae lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
