What is HIP 41723
An orange star in the small constellation Pyxis, the navigator's compass. Its light crossed 1055 years before reaching us: when it set off, Iberian Christian kingdoms were advancing southward and Islamic caliphates were cultivating mathematical knowledge in Córdoba and Baghdad. A K-class star, more restful and golden than the Sun, it holds the warm glow of mature stars in the southern sky.

HIP 41723 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is February: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
