Its story

In Vela it pulses with a bluish tone, typical of hot class B stars, and its brightness is not steady: it varies slightly with a rhythm of its own that makes it a variable star. The light arriving now left 1,359 years ago, when the Abbasids had just founded Baghdad and the Carolingians were reshaping western Europe. Every small fluctuation in its glow is a reminder that stars, despite their eternal appearance, undergo inner processes of pulsation and change.
