What is Omega 1 Cancri

Omega-1 Cancri is a yellow G-type giant some 663 light-years away —an aged star whose modest apparent brightness conceals a luminosity far exceeding the Sun's. It lives in the Crab, one of the zodiac's faintest constellations, also home to the celebrated Beehive cluster. Its considerable distance for a naked-eye star magnifies the effect of its size and stellar seniority.

Omega 1 Cancri lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is January, when it culminates around midnight.

It can be seen from anywhere north of 65° S.
