A yellow-white variable in Canis Major, the loyal dog that follows Orion across the winter sky. Her light flickers gently and has been walking 139 years: it left when the Statue of Liberty was being inaugurated and Hertz was proving the existence of electromagnetic waves. Variable F stars carry small hydrodynamic mismatches inside them —the star breathes.
