Highly luminous starIts story
35 Geminorum is an orange K-type giant burning some 1,763 light-years away, far into the depth of the Twins. To reach our apparent brightness from such a distance, its surface must pour out a staggering luminosity —hundreds of times the Sun's—, surfacing as a warm point amid much nearer stars. Its light set out around the third century, while the Roman Empire still stood: almost two millennia of travel to reach us.
