What is Psi 4 Aurigae

Psi-4 Aurigae is one of a set of stars sharing the letter Psi within the Charioteer, a practice old astronomers used when several lights crowded a single region. It is an orange K-type giant at 324 light-years, its warm hue reverberating across one of the densest milky fields of the northern winter.

Where it is and when to see it

Psi 4 Aurigae lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is December, when it culminates around midnight.

From London it never sets and culminates about 83° up.
From New York it culminates about 86° above the horizon.
From Sydney it culminates about 12° above the horizon.

It can be seen from anywhere north of 45° S.
