Hot blue starIts story
A blue star in Puppis, the celestial stern. Its light set out 587 years ago, when the Medici were protecting the early Florentine Renaissance and the Portuguese were rounding Cape Bojador, bound for southern Africa. A B-class star, hotter and more energetic than the Sun, it releases an intense blue glow characteristic of the young, massive stars that last only a few million years.
