What is Pi 2 Dorado
π² Doradus is a yellow star in the constellation Dorado, located in the southern region of the sky that hosts the Large Magellanic Cloud, satellite galaxy of the Milky Way. Its G type makes it kin to the Sun —a warm, mature star— though its light scatters across several hundred light-years. It shines in one of the richest corners of the southern deep sky.
Where it is and when to see it
Pi 2 Dorado lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is May, when it culminates around midnight.

- From Sydney it never sets and culminates about 54° up.
It can be seen from anywhere south of 20° N.
It ranks no. 15 in brightness among the 18 stars of Dorado in our catalogue. To find it, start from Alpha Dorado, the brightest: it lies about 19° away (a fist at arm's length covers about 10°).
