Variable starIts story
In the small southern constellation Dorado pulses a red M-type giant, cool and vast, breathing in slow cycles like a sleeping titan. Its shifting light —for it is a variable star— travelled close to 565 years to reach us, leaving home when Constantinople had just fallen and a whole world was reordering itself around the eastern Mediterranean. That visible heartbeat is the ancient pulse of a dying, serene sun.
