What is Lambda Dorado
λ Doradus shines yellow at 458 light-years, in the southern constellation of the Goldfish where the Large Magellanic Cloud unfolds. A G-class star, spectral cousin of the Sun in color and temperature, it lies at a distance that makes it faint to Earthly eyes. Its light shares the sky with one of the oldest spectacles of the southern hemisphere: our satellite galaxy.

Lambda Dorado lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
