What is HIP 26762
Close to the Hunter's shoulders, in Orion, shines an F-class star, yellow-white and somewhat hotter than the Sun, some one hundred and fifty-six light-years away. The light that now defines it set out when nineteenth-century European astronomers were refining the first spectral catalogues and photography was beginning to replace the human eye at observatories. Its pearly tone vibrates on that frontier between the Sun's warm yellow and the cooler white of Sirius.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 26762 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is December: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
