Hot blue starIts story
57 Orionis is a B2V spectroscopic binary with a 17,800 K surface, almost three times hotter than the Sun. It lies 1,822 light-years away, within the Hunter's borders but outside his famous figure. The light reaching us now left it around the year 204, deep in the Roman period: each photon has travelled from before the fall of the Empire to touch our eyes in a single starlit night.
