Its story

Saclateni accompanies Almaaz in Auriga, part of the small group of «the Kids» belonging to the Charioteer. It is an orange K-type giant 786 light-years away, slightly variable. Its Arabic name derives from «As-Sa‘d ath-thānī», «the second fortune». The light seen tonight set out from it when the Black Death was beginning to sweep across Europe: it has crossed entire centuries of human history, indifferent and steady, before reaching the modern observer's retina.
