Its story
In Camelopardalis —the northern giraffe Plancius drew in the seventeenth century to fill an empty patch of sky— shines this A-type white at 423 light-years. Its light crossed space while Vermeer was painting light —that very light, scattered— in rooms of Delft. Two forms of brightness, centuries apart, meeting now in the observer s eye.
