What is 6 Orionis
6 Orionis is a white A-type star settled at the edges of Orion, far from the Hunter's great beacons but breathing the same winter sky. At 228 light-years away, it offers the crisp, cool light of young stars that still have billions of years ahead of them. To find it you must trace the less celebrated outline of the constellation, where Orion leans toward the raised arm and the eye drifts away from the belt everyone seeks first.
Where it is and when to see it
6 Orionis lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is December: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
