Variable starIts story
58 Eridani is a genuine solar neighbour: a yellow G-type star just forty-three light-years away, with mass, radius and temperature practically identical to the Sun's. It is, however, a younger version —only a few hundred million years old— and its chromospheric activity runs hotter, causing small variations in brightness. To look toward it in Eridanus is to glimpse how our own star may have shone in its youth.
