55 Persei is a blue-white B8V star about 448 light-years away, with around 3.4 solar masses and roughly 116 times the Sun's luminosity. It burns above twelve thousand kelvin, the temperature of the youngest and most energetic main-sequence stars. Quiet to the eye, it belongs to the hot family that frames Perseus —the mythological hero who beheaded Medusa and rode Pegasus across the night sky.
Where it is and when to see it
55 Persei lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is December: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
