What is HIP 20156
Suspended in Perseus, this class-A white star sends us light that has been travelling for 243 years. It left its surface during the French Revolution, as the Estates-General were opening the doors of a new political world. Hotter and more luminous than the Sun, it shines with the cool clarity of young stars, near other giants of the same galactic arm that weave the silhouette of the celestial hero.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 20156 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is December: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
