What is 20 Persei
20 Persei is an F-type star about two hundred and thirty light-years away, yellow-white, somewhat hotter and more luminous than the Sun. It inhabits the body of Perseus, far from Algol's dramatic blinking but sharing the same patch of autumn sky. Its light, which set out when refracting telescopes were beginning to displace reflectors in astronomical work, now arrives clean after the long journey.
Where it is and when to see it
20 Persei lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
