Gamma Dorado
Variable starWhat is Gamma Dorado
Gamma Doradus is the star that gave its name to an entire class of stellar variables: the slow, multi-mode pulsations modern astronomy now calls «Gamma Doradus variables». Only 67 light-years away, this F-type star breathes through subtle brightness changes — a near-imperceptible heartbeat that nonetheless redefined a chapter of pulsation astrophysics.
Where it is and when to see it
Gamma Dorado lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October, when it culminates around midnight.
