It is a hot, young blue-white B-type, perched on the unmistakable W of Cassiopeia. The vain queen, bound to her throne in punishment, wheels endlessly around the celestial north pole —and this star wheels with her, turn after turn.
Where it is and when to see it
12 Cassiopeiae lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
