What is HIP 3544
Within the strokes of Cassiopeia, that great W embroidered on the northern sky, shines a white star with cool, crystalline tones. Its light set out around 1703, the year Peter the Great founded Saint Petersburg in the Baltic marshes. Hotter and more massive than the Sun, it shows that clean-fire glow so typical of young A-type stars.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 3544 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
