When it left, the Dutch were proclaiming their independence and the Golden Age of the Netherlands was beginning to light up Europe with Vermeer and Rembrandt in gestation. A class-A sun, hotter and brighter than ours, it modulates its glow with a heartbeat of its own —a living beacon among the septentrional constellations.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 17296 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is December: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
