6 Tauri is a hot blue B-type star roughly 350 light-years away in the wide territory of Taurus, toward the western reaches that drift away from the Pleiades and the Hyades. Its blue-white glow betrays a very hot surface. The light reaching us tonight slipped away around the middle of the seventeenth century, in the same generation in which Galileo defended heliocentrism and Kepler set down his laws of planetary motion.
Where it is and when to see it
6 Tauri lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
