Variable star

Its story

80 Pegasi is a variable red giant, swollen to roughly seventy-one solar radii, about 845 light-years away in the night-time stables of the Winged Horse. Its brightness shifts with the slow cadence of cool giants that have left their youth behind. Its crimson tone is unmistakable through a telescope: a vast suspended ember whose light —released around the twelfth century— has only just crossed Earth's atmosphere to reach a pair of eyes.
