Mu Sculptoris is an orange giant some two hundred and ninety light-years away, in a constellation aimed at the south galactic pole —the least crowded direction of the Milky Way. There, far from the bustle of gas and dust along the galactic plane, our gaze crosses the extragalactic universe with fewer obstacles. Mu watches over that open window onto the deep.
