It belongs to that family of vast, ruddy stars whose surface has cooled so far that the light turns to liquid copper. When this light began its journey, the American continent was still unknown to Europe; today it falls on our detectors like the warm echo of a northern autumn.

8 Andromedae lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
