Mature orange in Grus, 787 light years away. The light now settling on the southern horizon set out around 1238, in the midst of the Reconquista, when James I took Valencia. A calm K-class star, with no detectable physical drama: Hipparcos measured its parallax and brightness, and from there only the imagination can paint its surface of gentle fire.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 112381 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
