30 Pegasi rides along the Winged Horse, more than 1,270 light-years away. It is a blue B-type star, far hotter, more massive and more luminous than the Sun —the kind of sun destined for a brief life and a spectacular ending. The light presenting it tonight set out in the 8th century, when the sky was being mapped with bronze instruments at the observatories of Baghdad.

30 Pegasi lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is September, when it culminates around midnight.

It can be seen from anywhere north of 84° S.
