What is 24 Cepheus

24 Cephei is a G-type star nearly 395 light-years away, set into the angular silhouette of King Cepheus —high and circumpolar across much of the northern sky. It shares the Sun's spectral class but shines with the enlarged luminosity of a giant in a later chapter of its life. The light arriving tonight left around 1630, drifting through the diffuse haze of the Milky Way's arctic corner.

24 Cepheus lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November, when it culminates around midnight.

From London it never sets and culminates about 69° up.
From New York it never sets and culminates about 58° up.
From Sydney it never rises above the horizon.

It can be seen from anywhere north of 18° S.
