8 Persei is a K-type orange giant burning about 411 light-years away in the constellation of the hero Perseus. Its swollen, comparatively cool atmosphere reveals a star that has left youth behind and entered a luminous, quiet old age. It sits in a stretch of sky studded with young open clusters, standing out like an old orange ember among hot blue suns.
