16 Aquarii is a quiet star of magnitude 5.87, right at the edge of what the human eye can detect under genuinely dark skies. It lies at 342 light-years within the zodiacal constellation of Aquarius, recorded in the Hipparcos and Bright Star catalogues. A yellowish light that set out near the time Galileo was committing his observations of Jupiter's moons to print.
Where it is and when to see it
16 Aquarii lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
