60 Cygni is a blue type-B variable embedded in the Swan, about 1500 light-years away along the Orion Arm of the Milky Way. Its surface easily exceeds twenty thousand degrees, and its brightness drifts slightly over time. The light reaching Earth tonight set out deep in the Middle Ages, when the first Romanesque monasteries were still being raised.

60 Cygni lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is September, when it culminates around midnight.

It can be seen from anywhere north of 44° S.
