Delta Delphini is a pulsating white star belonging to the Delta Scuti family, giants that change brightness over a matter of hours. It forms part of the small diamond that outlines the body of the Dolphin, one of the tiniest and most endearing constellations of the summer sky. Its light, which takes more than two hundred and twenty years to arrive, beats to a rhythm of its own that escapes the naked eye.
Where it is and when to see it
Delta Delphinus lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
