Castor B is the white companion of famous Castor, together 51.6 light-years away in Gemini. What the eye perceives as a single point is in fact a multiple system, and B is one of its main pieces: itself a binary star, gravitationally bound to its twin. That two stars called «brothers» should each split into pairs and trios feels like a joke of the sky: the Greek myth of the twins repeated at stellar scale.
Where it is and when to see it
Castor B lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is January: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
