It is one of those truly distant presences: a white variable A-type star, lying toward Boötes, the herdsman who drives the Bears around the celestial pole. Its light set out hundreds of thousands of years ago, when the first «Homo sapiens» had not yet left Africa and our species was barely beginning to imagine language.
