Rho Aquilae
What is Rho Aquilae
ρ Aquilae was catalogued in the Eagle, but its proper motion proved so persistent that in 1992 it crossed the official boundary between constellations and entered the Dolphin. A white A2 main-sequence star 156 light-years away, with two solar masses, it is approaching us at 23 km/s. One of the few stars whose cartographic redrawing literally changed its home in the sky.
Where it is and when to see it
Rho Aquilae lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
