Its blue light crosses vast distances from Cygnus, far beyond the nearby regions of the galaxy. It is a B-type star, scorching and bluish-white, and variable as well, its brightness breathing slowly. The Swan stretches along the northern Milky Way, one of the most recognisable silhouettes of the summer and autumn sky in the north.

HIP 98863 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
