Its story
54 Sagittarii is a multiple system dominated by an orange K-type giant, well known to observers for splitting easily as a double through modest telescopes. It lies 241 light-years away in the northern reaches of Sagittarius, far from the cluster- and nebula-rich heart that hides the centre of our Galaxy. Its light has been travelling since the early nineteenth century.
