What is 43 Sagittarii

43 Sagittarii burns with a warm orange light some 482 light-years away, calm and amber, in a stretch of sky that looks toward the galactic heart. It is an evolved K-class star, swollen and cool compared with the Sun —the very fate awaiting stars like ours once the hydrogen in their cores runs out. A mature flame among the young crowd of Sagittarius.

43 Sagittarii lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July, when it culminates around midnight.

From London it culminates about 20° above the horizon.
From New York it culminates about 30° above the horizon.
From Sydney it culminates about 75° above the horizon.

It can be seen from anywhere south of 71° N.
