What is 56 Andromedae
56 Andromedae is a yellow G-type star about 316 light-years away, in the long body of the chained princess. It shares the Sun s colour and general temperature, though its distance reduces it to a modest 5.7-magnitude dot. Its light set out late in the eighteenth century, while Caroline and William Herschel were sweeping the night sky from England with their enormous reflectors.
Where it is and when to see it
56 Andromedae lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
