Variable star

Its story

In Cetus, the whale swimming through the autumn constellations, a whitish F-class sun with variable brightness pulses 307.2 light-years away. Its gentle throb recalls that no star is truly still. The light now grazing Earth departed when Diderot's great Encyclopédie was beginning to be published in Paris and European knowledge was aspiring to fit within books.
