Its story
87 Herculis is an orange K-type star 212 light-years away, one of the evolved giants scattered across the great figure of the Greek hero. Its atmosphere, several hundred degrees cooler than the Sun, lends its light an unmistakable warm tint when seen through instruments. The distance, modest by galactic standards, means its light has been travelling only a couple of centuries before reaching us.
