Its story
Sigma Arae is a white main-sequence A0V star with 2.6 solar masses and 215 times the Sun's luminosity, 378 light-years away. What sets it apart is its unusually strong X-ray emission for its type, a rarity attributed to a low-mass companion not yet firmly identified. It glows in silence within the southern Altar, a small constellation tucked between Scorpius and the Southern Triangle.
