Its story
Epsilon-1 Arae is an aging orange K3 III giant about 1.8 billion years old, whose envelope has swollen to nearly thirty solar radii and pours out 347 times the Sun's light with a warm 4,302 K glow. It shares its corner of the southern Altar with Epsilon-2 Arae, forming a naked-eye optical pair some 360 light-years away.
