Variable starIts story
On the shoulder of Hercules pulses a cosmic ruby of class M whose light took 479.7 years to cross the void. It departed when Philip II still ruled an empire on which the sun never set, around 1546. It is a variable star: its brightness breathes at its own cadence, expanding and contracting, a reminder that even the distant has its own beat and pulse.
