On the muscled flank of Hercules, an orange K-class star burns at 341 light years. The light brushing the European zenith tonight took leave of its surface around 1684, just as Leeuwenhoek was first describing protozoa beneath his microscope in Delft. Warm colour, modest brightness: the K class is the sky's serene maturity.
