Xamidimura is a hot blue B-class star burning alongside its companion Pipirima in the body of Scorpius, 501 light years from us. Its name comes from the Khoekhoegowab language of southern Africa, where it traditionally designated two watchful eyes in the sky. It is also variable: small pulsations subtly shift its brightness as it sweeps the southern firmament.
Where it is and when to see it
Xamidimura lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is June: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
