What is HIP 78893
It is a white A-type star coiled within Draco, that celestial serpent encircling the northern circumpolar stars. Its light set out some 254 years ago, when James Cook was completing his first circumnavigation and the Enlightenment was measuring the world with sextants. Hotter than the Sun, it radiates with the firm calm of early-spectrum stars. Draco carries it along a discreet bend, away from the well-marked head.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 78893 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is March: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
